Plumbing problems often occur in old houses due to ageing pipes and other plumbing fixtures. In some cases, DIY band aid solutions aren’t enough to fix the issue. That’s where emergency plumbers come in the picture. It’s better if you’ll schedule for a regular plumbing check up to avoid unnecessary major plumbing issues.

Get to know the common plumbing problems you’ll most likely encounter in your home:

Blocked Drains

The common cause of a blocked drain are hair accumulation, soap scum, cooking grease and small pieces of leftover food. When left unnoticed, gunk will reduce water flow. Clogged drain especially in the kitchen is really not fun, at the same time messy and smelly to fix.

You can use homemade mixtures in unclogging your drains. Baking soda and vinegar are powerful combination to create a fizzing action that can release stubborn drain clogs. Follow up these mixture with hot water and check if the clog is released. Repeat as necessary, or feel free to do it on a monthly basis to avoid future clogs.

Leaky Faucets

Continuous dripping is annoying, and can increase your water bill, agree? Rust, mold and careless use of faucets are the common causes of this problem.

Handle your faucets with gentleness v even if there’s a rush. Check the problem, see if it requires a simple faucet replacement or an overhaul fix.  You need to call for a professional plumber for the latter. You can try doing simple faucet repair but know that complicated extensive faucet problems should be handled only by plumbers.

Leaky/Burst Pipes

Incorrect installation, freezing conditions, unprotected piping, age, misuse, or damage, are some of the reasons for burst pipes. This plumbing issue can paralyse or cause damage to the entire water system when left unattended.

Shut off your main stopcock and call an emergency plumber. This type of plumbing repair should only be done by an expert plumber to minimise further damage. Ask your plumber for preventive measure to avoid such inconvenience and help you save from repairs in the long run.
