Some burst water pipes below ground, even in walls, can go undetected until you receive your water bill.

A simple way to determine whether you have a burst water pipe is to take a reading of your water meter and then use no water for a period, maybe up to 20 minutes. After that period re-read the meter and take a note of any change in the numbers. The last 3 numbers in red represent the amount in litres ie: 555 = 555 litres used. The other numbers are measurements of kilolitres used. This well tell you how many litres are ticking away through the meter and out of the burst pipe.
